Dart Rodding Sonde 33kHz
Standard UK Sonde Frequency
The Dart Systems Rodding Sonde is a versatile and powerful, self-contained waterproof transmitter. The Sonde can be attached to Flex Rods, Cobra Rods, Drain Rods or any movable device that can be propelled inside non-metallic pipes. Used correctly you can pinpoint the exact route of the pipe and where a blockage is underground from above ground!
The Sonde emits a strong radio signal which can be tracked above ground using an industry standard Cable Avoiding Tool (CAT) or Cable Locator which operates at the same frequency. This 33Khz frequency is the UK standard Sonde frequency for most applications.
Dart Rodding Sondes are available in 33Khz, 8Khz or 512Hz frequency.
- 33Khz unit is colour coded Orange
- 8Khz unit is colour coded Green
- 512Hz unit is colour coded Red
Sonde Part Numbers
370-100 - 33Khz Rodding Sonde - Industry Standard UK Location Frequency
370-101 - 8Khz Rodding Sonde - Industry Standard Location Frequency when 33kHz locating is difficult
370-102 - 512Hz Rodding Sonde - Ideal for locating blockages in cast iron pipes
The Sondes are tested to withstand drops from 1 Mtr onto concrete or similar surfaces and are also pressure tested and are rated waterproof to a depth of at least 30 Meters. The M10 bolt can be used to connect the Sonde to a variety of pushrods, Cobras or Duct / Drain Rods. The bolt is fitted with a Nyloc insert designed to ensure that the Sonde will not unscrew during normal use.
Industry standard location frequency in the UK which provides a good all-round signal for underground location.
A high frequency that works well for locating to greater depths.
Transmitting Sondes enable the user to trace non-metallic sewers, drains, ducts or pipes and to locate blockages or collapses.
If the equipment is used in a manner not specified by the manufacturer, the protection provided by the equipment may be impaired.

The Reason for different Sonde Frequencies
Pipe and soil conditions can affect the sonde signal therefore it is advised to have a set of sondes at hand so if one doesn’t work you can try the others.
If the soil is wet or the shingle/concrete packed around the pipe has an iron content it will affect the 33kHz sonde signal so for this example an 8kHz sonde would be a better sonde to use.
If the pipe is cast iron then the 512Hz sonde would be the one to use as the lower frequency will not attach itself to the cast iron pipe and blur the location signal.
